Hints and Tips

The only way for you to make money is to get your items from the rack to the register!

Pricing:

  • Don't focus on what the item cost NEW.  Price items as if YOU were going to buy them. What would you be willing to pay? If you are having a hard time judging, general rule is no more than 1/3 of original cost.  But it is best to think in the terms of "Would I pay X for this?"  If the answer is "No" then the shopper won't either.
  • Price items to sell before half-price day.
  • On larger items, check what the price is new:

Clean Clean Clean!:

  • Wash anything that can go in the washer- car seat covers, stroller covers, Boppy pillows...
  • A quick touch-up with an iron makes a HUGE difference in how clothing sells.
  • Febreeze helps with odors on anything that can't be washed.
  • Clean all toys and equipment, make sure they have batteries (put in an older set or buy cheap ones at the dollar store).
  • For large play equipment, try Armor All for a nice shine - just be sure to attach the tag FIRST!!
  • Goof-off, Oops and other latex paint removers work well to remove stains, marks and stickers from plastic toys. Check a small area of the toy first, especially if the plastic is thin. Baby oil also works to remove stickers and tape.
  • Rubbing alcohol will remove permanent marker.
  • Be sure to wash shoe laces! Soak white laces in a bleach solution or Biz.

Stain Removal:

  • OxyClean works wonders on spit-up, formula and other baby stains. Use it with a squirt bottle directly on the stain.
  • Clorox Bleach pens work on all kinds of stains, just be VERY CAREFUL and follow the package instructions.
  • Combine equal parts water, dish washing liquid and ammonia. Rub the solution in the stain with an old toothbrush, then launder as usual. Discard remaining solution as it doesn't keep.
  • Hot water works well for Kool-aid and Jello stains. Rinse and soak as needed.
  • Biz is great for soaking all kinds of stains loose. Just soak in the sink then wash as directed.
  • Mother's Little Miracle works on most protein based stains. Available at most baby stores or online at Drugstore.com.
